Tim Duncan Divorce: Spurs Star "Haunted" By Finals Miss [VIDEO], Dejected Star Heads For Divorce Court
This summer shapes up as a season of transition for San Antonio star forward Tim Duncan.
After he and his Spurs came within a game of dethroning the now two-time champion Miami Heat in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, a dejected Duncan talked of “always being haunted” by a late game miss he was that contributed to the first Finals round loss of his 14-year career.
“It’s a hard question to answer right now,” he told Yahoo! Sports when asked if he felt any pride for all his seemingly overmatched team had accomplished. "To be in a Game 6 up one and two chances to win an NBA championship and not do it, that's tough to swallow."
And neither Duncan’s lament or heartache figure to end there or anytime soon. Sometime over the next days, he will again be one of the central figures in a court of a different kind.
After more than 12-years of marriage to his college sweetheart, Duncan and wife Amy are headed for divorce court amid rumors the she may have been cheating on the NBA star.
According to TMZ, in a formal divorce petition filed on March 27, Amy Duncan claims their union has become “insupportable because of discord and conflict.” Yet, the San Antonio Express later reported the Hall of Fame bound forward had concerns about his marriage as far back as a year ago when he hired a private-investigator to begin tailing his wife.
After having his attorney seek an injunction allowing for proceedings to be delayed until at least 30-days after the Spurs playoff run had ended, Duncan, at least publicly, was largely able to put his emotions on pause.
The 37-year-old vet averaged 27 points and 15 rebounds over the series' final two games, more than justifying the three-year, $36 million extension the team recently granted him. But none of that seemed to matter much late Thursday, not with what he had just experienced and what mournfully awaits.
According to TMZ, Duncan’s attorneys have indicated their client plans to enforce a prenuptial agreement the couple signed at the time of their union, which came some four years after he was selected as the top pick in the 1997 NBA draft.
As for the couple’s two small children, Duncan has indicated he and his soon to be ex are hopeful they will be able to come an agreement over financial support.
Either way, change is surely coming for Tim Duncan.
