A new advertisement for the Red Robin restaurant chain has created a stir because it is deemed offensive to vegetarians by some, according to reports.

See the offending commercial here

In Red Robin's new commercial advertising their brand new veggie burger, a waitress serving a family says, "We even have a garden burger just in case your teenage daughter is going through a phase."

Kevin Caulfield, Red Robin's senior director of communications said, "We created a number of ads and we have a rotation schedule that is intended to keep the campaign fresh. This particular ad is planned to be out of rotation and no longer on the air very soon."

Caulfield added, "The intent of the ad was to remind our guests again that Red Robin serves meatless options too."

Red Robin's Facebook page was inundated with offended viewers of their ad. One angry social media user, Jesse Van Hall wrote, "I've never eaten at Red Robin but when your ad mentioned Garden Burgers I thought it would be a great place to take my family! That is, until the rest of the commercial aired. I will not be a patron of Red Robin until they issue a formal apology and pull the add. It was anything but lighthearted. Very disappointing."

Another Facebook user went the sarcastic route, posting, "My vegetarian phase started when I was a teenager (43 years ago), and my "no more Red Robin phase is starting today!"

The Red Robin flap calls to mind a similar public image issue Taco Bell battled through recently in one of their ads, promoting a variety 12-pack of tacos. In that commercial, a voiceover proclaims bringing a vegetable tray to a party is "like punting on fourth and one."

That ad was quickly pulled, as Red Robin's certainly will be.
