Dwight Howard News: Lakers Star Insists He's Not Watching NBA Finals

Los Angeles Lakers free agent center Dwight Howard insists he isn’t a big fan of the NBA Finals.

And, thriller that it was aside, he has his actions during Miami’s Game 6 comeback win over San Antonio to prove it. Just as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen were all staging their improbable rally, TMZ reports Howard was hanging out with friends and having dinner at an upscale L.A. restaurant.

Stunned patrons later told the website Howard didn’t sit anywhere near the TV and never made an attempt to sneak a peek of the game. Howard later told TMZ “I’m not watching … I’m not playing so ain’t no need to be watching. I don’t want to see nobody win a championship.”

A growing list of teams seems to think the enigmatic big man might be the final piece in their efforts to get over the top. In addition to the Lakers, Howard is attracting major interest from such squads as Houston, Dallas, New Jersey and his hometown Atlanta Hawks.

In several of those scenarios, most notably Houston and Atlanta, rumors persist he and fellow free agent Chris Paul may even be thinking of teaming up. Based on league salary cap rules, the Lakers can offer Howard more than $30 million more than any other team, but the sensitive star has hinted that his strained relationship with Coach Mike D’Antoni may also be a key factor in his decision.
