Mark Cuban Free agent Sales Pitch: "Pick Your Own Team"

New-age Dallas Mavs owner Mark Cuban is offering free-agent signings the chance to help pick the team they play for, according to ESPN.

As the chase for the likes of Dwight Howard and Chris Paul kicks into high gear, the website is reporting Cuban plans to sell the idea that the Mavs situation offers a scene unlike any other.

“In essence, you get to come in and, it’s you and we have room for two more max free agents (next year),” Cuban told ESPN of his thinking. “That’s why when I talked about a two-year plan, that’s the concept there. “So part of our sales pitch is, look, we’re not going to try to fool you and say that you and Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Marion and Vince Carter are basically a championship team. The reality is you’re going to work with us and Dirk to get out there and pick your team.”

A free agent at the end of next season, perennial All-Star Nowitzki has already gone on record in asserting he’s willing to take a pay cut for the chance at another title. That’s when the likes of LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kyrie Irving, Paul George and DeMarcus Cousins could all be on the open market.

But first, there’s this summer, a time when the Mavs are hoping they are able to net at least one proven star in getting the ball rolling.

“If we get one of our big names, that would be successful and get us on a two-year plan,” Cuban told ESPN.  “If) we don’t get one of the two big names and we sign two or three guys that make us good this year and allow us to compete for the fifth or sixth playoff spot or better and still keeps our cap room for next year to sign then we’ll also be successful.”
