Greg Dent, a promising senior wide receiver for the Florida State Seminoles, has been suspended from the team indefinitely after a woman he'd been friends with since his freshman year accused him of sexual assault.
Dent's accuser, unnamed due to the nature of the crime, is "very good friends" with Dent according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Her parents allegedly know the wide receiver, letting him borrow their car on occasion. She frequently stayed with Dent and cooked him dinner.
On Sunday at 3:30 a.m., the victim said she was woken up from her sleep by Dent trying to kiss her, according to the police report obtained by Warchant.com. After she said no, Dent became more forceful, forcing her to bite his lip. He went to the bathroom, then returned to the bed naked and laying with her. He continued touching her and removed her shorts despite her struggling.
He also tried to pry her legs apart as she tightened them; eventually she pulled Dent's hair and punched him in the side of the head. The report states that Dent was twice able to partially penetrate the victim before she ran out of his apartment and reported the incident.
Dent has now been charged sexual battery, a second-degree felony for which he could face a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment. His bond has been set at $15,000. The state attorney's office had requested bond be set at $20,000 and the implementation of a tracking device.
Last season, Dent had his best season as a Seminole, catching 27 passes for 355 yards and two touchdowns. Tim Jansen, Dent's representation in this case said, "It's a very serious offense. It's an offense that could send him to prison if he's convicted. It's certainly an offense that's going to get him suspended."
