Chris Matthews Catch [VIDEO]: 5 Things to Know About Breakout Seahawks Wide Receiver

Little-known Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Chris Matthews burst onto the scene during Super Bowl XLIX with several huge grabs, including a touchdown. However if you didn’t know who he was before tonight don’t worry—very few did. Here are five things to know about Seattle’s possible new star.

1. Matthews didn’t play a game for the Seahawks until Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles in which he recorded a tackle. He finished the 2014 regular season without a single catch. In the Super Bowl he had four for 109 yards and a score.
2. Matthews played in the SEC for two seasons for the Kentucky Wildcats, reeling in 62 passes for 925 yards and nine touchdowns. Prior to those two seasons he played for Los Angeles Harbor College—whose moniker is the Seahawks.
3. Matthews topped 1,000 yards receiving in 2012 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, as well as scored seven touchdowns.
4. At 6’5, Matthews is the tallest pass-catcher on the team, including running backs and tight ends.
5. Upon being signed from the practice squad in December, Matthews began his Seahawks tenure as the No. 7 receiver on the depth chart.
