Report: Jason Kidd To Interview For Brooklyn Coaching Job

Jason Kidd hasn’t been out of the league for a week and already the Hall of Fame bound point guard wants back in.

Sources tell ESPN that Kidd is slated to meet with Brooklyn Nets General Manager Billy King early this week in an attempt to sell himself as the best man for the team’s head coaching vacancy. Though he has no head coaching experience, many consider the 40-year old a natural for that line of work given his high basketball IQ and his uncanny ability to motivate teammates.

"Jason feels he's really ready to do this," one of Kidd’s associates told ESPN.com. Apparently, King is also intrigued by the possibility, adding Kidd to a short list of candidates that also rumored to include Indiana assistant Brian Shaw.

Kidd has a history with the Nets, having led the team to two NBA Finals appearances when the franchise was in New Jersey. Kidd also has close ties to All-Star guard Deron Williams, who is thought to be on board with the idea.

After 19 seasons, Kidd retired second on the league’s all-time list in both assists and steals. Over his career, he made 10 All-Star Game appearances and led the league in assists five times.

The Nets fired coach P.J. Carlesimo at the end of the season after being bounced in the first round of the playoffs by Chicago.
