A 6 of 16 shooting night and a Game 1 loss in the NBA Finals hasn’t left Chris Bosh wanting for confidence.
Bosh, the Miami Heat’s jump-shooting big man and the third-prong in the Big 3 attack also featuring LBeron James and Dwyane Wade told reporters on Friday in the games to come he has no plans of passing up any of the shots he struggled with so mightily in Game 1.
“If I’m open, I’m going to shoot,” Bosh told The Toronto Sun. “We made the right plays kicking it out to our shooters. If shooters are open, we trust them to shoot the basketball and keep doing what they’ve been doing.”
But just how long can the Heat keep doing what they did in Game 1 and expect to present much of a challenge to the rugged and determined Spurs?
Bosh shoot 0 for 4 on threes on Thursday, including a hoist in the final seconds when the Heat trailed by just a basket. In 17 playoff games, he’s now taken 35 attempts, which is double the rate of them he took during the regular season.
“He was open,” Heat Coach Eric Spoelstra told The Sun of Bosh’s last attempt. “Probably for a reason at that point.”
Speculation now is Bosh will attempt to get closer to the basket and shoot more midrange shots than the longer ones that more and more seem to be openly available to him. Bosh shoot 50.2 on mid-range shoots this season compared to 42 percent on treys.
During Game 1, he made three of five mid-range jumpers.
