Tonight at 8:00 p.m. at TD Garden in Boston, the Bruins have an opportunity to do something many thought was unthinkable at the start of the postseason; sweep the Pittsburgh Penguins out the playoffs. The game can be live streamed here or Bruins and Penguins fans can listen to the their team's radio broadcast at 98.5 The Sports Hub and 105.9 The X, respectively.
Despite counting Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jarome Iginla, and other stars as members of the team, the Penguins have only been able to muster two goals in three games against red-hot Tuukka Rask. In Wednesday night's double-overtime nail biter, Rask stopped 53 shots from the NHL's most feared offense, allowing his Bruins to take a commanding 3-0 series advantage.
Penguins forward Pascal Dupuis expressed confidence that their luck will shift, saying, "With the firepower that we have on our team, eventually they will go in." They cannot lose again, however, so eventually needs to be Game 4.
Brandon Sutter, owner of half Pittsburgh's goals this series, sounded determined but a bit resigned to the prospect of heading home soon. "I think if you're betting right now, you're not betting on the Penguins down 3-0," Sutter said. "But we're not going to quit. The percentages are, obviously, against us, but we've got a good team."
The talk of the Penguins sleeping giants on offense rings true, however. Pittsburgh has tremendous firepower, enough that talk of a comeback from a 3-0 deficit is not outlandish. Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg clearly recognized that and voiced it to the media.
"You just have to have that killer instinct and just forget what happened in the past three games and just focus on that one game," Seidenberg said. "Whenever we play in the moment we play our best hockey."
All the firepower and bullets in the world won't save the Penguins from a humiliating sweep, though, unless they find some accuracy. "On any given night, some of the chances we had go in and it could be five or six goals," Sutter said. "By no means are we going to panic about scoring goals."
They probably should start worrying just a little bit.
