The New York Yankees have a lot of question marks heading into the 2015 season, and one of the many uncertainties about their roster involves the role of Alex Rodriguez. The third baseman missed the entire 2014 season, and he has been dealing with hip issues for a few years now.
Shields To Tigers Rumors Untrue?
A-Rod views himself as someone that can help the team in the upcoming season, and he has been training with somebody who certainly knows a few things about being a great hitter. According to SF Gate, Rodriguez has been receiving tutelage from former San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates great Barry Bonds.
Rodriguez has been working with Bonds in San Rafael at the Future Prospects facility, which is owned and run by Bonds' friend and former Arizona State teammate Charles Scott. Rodriguez is the latest MLB player to work with Bonds at the facility, as Michael Morse, Brandon Crawford, and Pablo Sandoval did last season with the Giants.
Phillies Asking Too Much For Hamels?
At the very least, Rodriguez appears to be motivated, as he posted some pictures to his Instagram page with the caption "Starting the year in the cage."
A-Rod has reportedly looked good during his training sessions at the facility, although a more important concern for him might be staying healthy. No matter how well he plays, he needs to stay on the field if he wants to contribute in a meaningful way.
Rodriguez still also does not have a defined role with the team. The Yankees tried to push Rodriguez away at times during 2014, and it is unknown how much playing time they will want to give him in the upcoming season.
