The high-powered Pittsburgh Penguins experienced a severe outage on their home ice in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Bruins, who will look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead on the road. Tonight's Game 2 will begin at 8:00 at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, and will be televised on NBC Sports Network. It can be live streamed here for free, also. Bruins fans can listen to the Boston radio broadcast on 98.5 The Sports Hub, while Penguins fans can do the same on 105.9 The X.
Bruins center David Krejci scored two goals in the Game 1 shocker, and has been one of the most effective players in the entire 2013 NHL postseason. Entering Game 2, Krejci has seven goals, and 12 assists; that's a playoffs-leading 19 points in total.
Brad Marchand, another of Boston's leaders, spoke to reporters about Krejci's excellence and its effect on the rest of the team. "It definitely gives the rest of us a lot of confidence and makes us want to do our part too," Marchand said. "It flows all the way through the lineup when a guy's going like that and creates energy for the rest of us and allows us to feed off of that."
The other Game 1 hero for the Bruins was goaltender Tuukka Rask, who stopped Pittsburgh 29 times in a shutout effort. His counterpart, Tomas Vokoun, faced 30 shots, letting three of them hit the back of the net.
"Tuukka stood tall and made a lot of saves at the right time," Marchand said. "We just want to make sure we collapse low and try to take away lanes."
The Penguins are not used to getting shut out, and their frustration was evident when stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin got involved in verbal and physical altercations on the ice. Penguins forward Matt Cooke acknowledged that his team was out of sorts.
"I think anytime you see Evgeni Malkin fighting he's away from his game," Cooke said. "Emotions are high."
