According to ESPN, Messi says that those reports are false. Messi also denies recent reports that have claimed that he and Barcelona manager Luis Enrique are not getting along. Some even went so far as to suggest that Messi is using his stardom to try and get the coach removed.

"I am thankful to be able to give my version," said Messi following Barcelona's win over Atletico Madrid. "It's not good for people to look for rivalry between me and Luis Enrique because there isn't any. Don't throw s--- at us from outside because that will only do us harm."

Messi also resented the notion that he calls the shots for the club.

"I have heard lots of things being said about me before and now," he said. "They make it look like I am the one who is in charge here when I am just another player. I have never demanded anything to stay because I don't have any intention of going. I heard people say that my dad had spoken to Chelsea, to City. It's all lies."

Messi went on the thank the fans for not buying into the speculation and for continuing to believe in him and his desire to be with the club. "I have no reproach for the fans," he said. "They do not look for any rivalry between the coach and I."

Messi has won the Ballon d'Or four times in his career and is widely considered to be one of the two best players in the world. He is a finalist for the award yet again, along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer. Ronaldo is the favorite to win the award, which is being given out on Monday night.
