Ryan Giggs praised the impact of new signing Robin Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa, who have already contributed to United's success in the new English Premier League season.
"You hope the big players that you sign fit in straight away," Giggs told Key 103.
"Sometimes it doesn't happen. With Shinji and Robin, it has happened straight away, which is great.
"It gives everyone a lift in the squad. Training is a lot sharper and we are all fighting for places, which is what you want.
"It just ups the performance level."
Van Persie and Kagawa are, however, doubtful for Saturday's game against Wigan, where Giggs will make his 600th appearance for United in the Premier League, if he gets minutes.
"The lads can't wait to produce some of the football that we did last year," the 38-year-old said.
"What happened last season was tough for everyone but you just have to come back in the right manner, which is what we hope to do.
"It is going to be tough because there are a lot of quality teams out there but you are always determined. We want to get it back."
Meanwhile, United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has said he wants the No. 1 goalkeeper's jesry at Old Trafford. Revealing a keen friendship with his competition David De Gea, Lindegaard said the duo enjoy a good rapport outside the soccer field.
"Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard and David de Gea are very good friends, but the former said there will be no hesitation in fighting for a place in the starting line-up at Old Trafford. "I have a very good relationship with David," Lindegaard said on United's podcast "Red Voices".
"We are very good friends. I have a lot of respect for him and I feel he has a lot of respect for me too.
"I would say it's more the opposite. We support each other very much. From the first day he came to the club, we have both been telling each other: 'I think you can try to solve this situation in a different way'.
"I'm a bit older than him and he's a bit more experienced than me in terms of playing games. So we can help each other in a lot of things."
Lindegaard praised the efforts of goalkeeping coach Eric Steele. "I think the whole environment created for us by Eric Steele is very good," he said.
"I'm sure it's not an easy job to have two qualified keepers who both want to play as No. 1. Obviously, there can only be one so it's not an easy job to keep us both happy, keep us both motivated and keep our character where we want to play for him and perform for him, as we want to perform for the manager.
"Eric is doing a fantastic job with that."
