Outspoken his entire baseball career, Jose Canseco wasn't about remain silent about an allegation of sexual assault against him.
The 48-year-old Canseco, who is playing in the independent United League with the Fort Worth Cats, addressed the media prior to their game Thursday night to deny a woman's claim that he sexually assaulted her.
"It's almost laughable for an individual to say I raped them and drugged them at the same time," Canseco said in an Associated Press report. "My ex-wives, my ex-girlfriends will testify on my behalf that the way the media portrayed me and the way they're trying to portray me here, it's not even close to being the truth. Let's wait for the truth."
Canseco told reporters he was willing to submit to a polygraph test.
Las Vegas police said Wednesday that they were investigating a complaint against the former Oakland Athletics star. No charges have been filed against Canseco and no arrests have been made.
Information about the investigation went public Wednesday when Canseco made mention of it on Twitter. He added that Las Vegas police had just left his home.
The postings, including the name and workplace of a woman, generated an outcry from others who posted comments deriding Canseco.
The two-time American League home run champion, in 1998 and 2001 showed no remorse about the posts he put up on Twitter.
''Those fans are entitled to the truth," The Associated Press report quoted him as saying. "I think the police are entitled to the truth. If you have nothing to hide, why hide it?"
Canseco hit 462 career home runs and was a six-time Major League Baseball All-Star in a 16-year career that included seven major league teams. Besides starting his career with the Oakland Athletics, he played for the Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox.
