Russell Westbrook: OKC Tornado Victims Visited By Thunder Players

A visibly still crippled Russell Westbrook led a contingent of Oklahoma City Thunder players on a series of hospital tours to visit kids injured in this week’s storm.  

Mere hours after star forward Kevin Durant pledged a $1 million donation to relief efforts, Westbrook, Jeremy Lamb, Hasheem Thabeet, DeAndre Liggins and Coach Scott brooks all met with victimized families. Yahoo! Sports reports the highlight of the day came when Westbrook, still confined to a wheelchair recuperating from the torn right meniscus injury that prematurely ended his season, exchanged high-fives and blew bubbles with 3-year-old Grayson Ketchie.

“He played with Grayson so wonderfully,” mother Janna Ketchie told Yahoo! “It’s so awesome. They’re great guys… It’s amazing to see that he’s a professional basketball player who we know from nobody and he’s blowing bubbles with my son to make my son feel better. It’s amazing.”

Later Westbrook told Yahoo! “It’s tough to come in here and be with the families when their child is in pain, but it’s also good to see them smile and have a sense of enjoyment after the disaster.”

Young Grayson was injured after the tornado destroyed the day care facility where he and six-month-old brother were staying during the storm. His brother escaped uninjured.  

Thunder players are free these days after being bounced from the NBA playoffs by Memphis in the conference semifinals. But after the way they’ve responded to the people of Oklahoma, who could argue they don't all seem like winners.
