John Cena Neck Injury Update: WWE Champ Returning To Raw Monday

John Cena, the WWE Heavyweight champion, is expected to return to WWE Monday Night Raw next week after missing the past show with a neck injury suffered at the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view show this past Sunday.

Cena was battling "The Human Wrecking Ball" Ryback in a "Last Man Standing" match for Cena's title belt. The only way to win a match of this stipulation is to damage an opponent so badly that he is incapable of rising to his or her feet to beat a ten count. During the course of Cena's title bout, Ryback lifted the champion off the ground and speared him through a wall near the staging area.

Sparks flew as the two men crashed through the wall where the pyrotechnic shows for wrestlers' entrances occur. After the move, the referee counted to ten but neither combatant was able to beat the count and the match was declared a no contest, with Cena retaining his championship.

Ryback eventually got to his feet and left the area, but Cena required a stretcher and a neck brace. According to WWE.com, once backstage Cena removed his neck brace and got off the stretcher while refusing further medical attention. He left the arena under his own power.

He missed this past edition of Monday Night Raw selling the injury, but he does not appear to be seriously hurt and is expected to perform Monday. Ryback did appear on the latest episode of Raw, complaining about the bizarre finish to his match. He challenged Cena to a rematch on the next pay-per-view, Payback, in an Ambulance match.

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline also said, "John Cena is expected back on Raw next week. He was off TV last night selling injuries, but he worked before the live crowd in the dark match main event."
