Ray McDonald Sexual Assault: 49ers Player Served Search Warrant Over Alleged Rape, Second Incident Of 2014

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald is in hot water for the second time this season. According to reports, he was served a search warrant by San Jose police and is being accused of rape.

The police received a call from a local hospital from a woman alleging she was sexually assaulted by McDonald the day before. McDonald has not been arrested in connection with the allegations but an investigation is continuing.

Earlier this season the 49ers took a great deal of backlash for standing by McDonald in the face of a domestic violence allegation made by his fiancée. No charges were eventually filed, but police showed up at McDonald's home and found his fiancée with bruises on her neck and arm.

The allegation came shortly after Ray Rice's situation with his own then-fiancee was the talk of the NFL, and Carolina Panthers defensive lineman Greg Hardy's own domestic violence incident was thrust into the spotlight.

At the time 49ers owner Jed York publicly defended McDonald and specifically invoked Rice's situation.

"Ray McDonald is not Ray Rice. And if there's another one it's not the same as the previous. That each case is it's own individual entity. I think as a society we have a sense of saying, 'Well, you didn't do it right with Ray Rice right away so you need to overdo it with Ray McDonald or whoever else it is," York said.

This season McDonald has recorded 39 tackles, three sacks and forced a fumble. It's unclear now though whether the 49ers can continue to take a public relations beating because of his off-field issues.
