Former top pick and Ohio State star center Greg Oden is on the comeback trail and early reports are the oft-injured seven-footer “is looking right.”

Oden, who was selected by Portland with the first overall pick in 2007, played in just 82 games between then and 2009 during which time he underwent to microfracture surgeries on his right leg.

But, according to Ohio State player Deshaun Thomas, all that now finally seems behind him. “Man, he looks unbelievable,” Thomas, who’s been working out with Oden in preparation for the upcoming NBA Draft told The News Herald. “He’s running. He’s lifting weights. You might be seeing a comeback. He looks like he’s ready to go… he’s looking right.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers were rumored to be interested in signing Oden late this past season and reports are now his hometown Indiana Pacers may also be interested. Oden plans to spend the summer working out in Indiana.

After taking more than four-years off, this may the now 26-year-olds last best chance of gaining the level of stardom that once seemed preordained. In his one-season at Ohio State, Oden starred with current Memphis Grizzlies star guard Mike Conley Jr. and some even speculate ultimately the Griz’s might be interested in snaring him.

“I’ll tell you one thing, for a 7-footer that’s all he does, running and getting in shape,” said Thomas.
