One Direction, one of the most popular bands in the world, announced their upcoming world tour today at Wembley Stadium, one of the world's premier soccer venues.
One Direction, who became international superstars after appearing on The X Factor, have sold over 30 million albums and reached the number one spot on music charts in 37 different countries, according to reports. One Direction did not win the 2010 competition; that honor was bestowed upon Matt Cardle, but they have certainly reaped the greatest rewards.
The tour, which will take place in 2014, will find One Direction at a number of renowned stadiums: The Stadium of Light in Sunderland on April 28th, Etihad Stadium, the home of Manchester United on April 31st, Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on June 3rd, and on June 7th the band will return to Wembley Stadium.
They will also perform a number of shows throughout Latin America, visiting Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile. The members of One Direction are all admitted soccer fans, and said there will be more shows added at a later date.
'We want to make the stage bigger, with new songs. It's going to be a completely different tour and a lot of fun," said Harry Styles, one of the band members.
