The cheesesteaks have been outlawed in one part of Philadelphia.
New Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has instituted a healthier diet plan for his football players, ESPN's Jeannine Edwards is reporting.
Under former head coach Andy Reid, the team had its weekly meal plans that consisted of "Taco Tuesdays" and "Fast Food Fridays."
Instead, the Eagles' meals now will consist of nutritious options. At a Philadelphia minicamp, the players learned about the organization's revamped cafeteria, complete with signs inside the structure explaining the four major food groups.
"Gone are things like Taco Tuesdays and Fast Food Fridays, which the players are not too happy about," Edwards reported. "Pizza, chicken wings, fried foods - and even red meat - are off the menu. (Kelly wants) nothing but organic hormone- and antibiotic-free lean meats."
The new diet is designed to help the players play closer to their physical potential.
"Chip Kelly believes that elite athletes need optimal nutrition," Edwards said.
Kelly's organic menu features zero fried chicken, pizza, burgers, and red meat in general - under which the aforementioned cheesesteaks are categorized.
The Eagles are coming off a 4-12 season in 2012, losing 11 of their last 12 games under Reid. The franchise replaced Reid, the 14th-year coach, with a coach new to the NFL ranks in Kelly.
Kelly spent the last four years running the high octane Oregon Ducks football program, and he has brought some collegiate elements to the field as well as the cafeteria. The Ducks went 46-7 during his tenure there.
The pace of the Eagles practice during the franchise's organized team activities was up-tempo, Yahoo.com reported, and loud music blared over the speakers on the practice field. The reported added that Kelly was one of the first coaches to install a quick-paced practice with short breaks dispersed and loud music being played as practice played out.
