The New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians will do battle twice today, in a double-header kicking off at 12:05 p.m. from Progressive Field in Cleveland. The game can be live streamed for free here or for a subscription fee here with better quality video. The games will be shown on YES Network and Sports Time Ohio, while fans of the Yankees can listen in at WCBS 880. Cleveland fans who want to hear the radio broadcast can tune in to WTAM 1100.
The Indians will be looking for a way to tame Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano in this series, who ripped up Indians pitching early in April. In two games against Cleveland in 2013, Cano was 7-for-10, with three home runs, seven RBI, and six runs scored.
In his career, Cano has raked against the Indians. He's batting .367 lifetime when playing Cleveland, with 12 home runs, 40 RBI, and a 1.031 on base plus slugging percentage, the second highest of his career against any opponent. He has played 54 games against the Indians; not one other opponent on Cano's highest-OPS-against top-five list has faced him in more than nine games. Yankees manager Joe Girardi told ESPN that Cano will play in both games but is likely to serve as the designated hitter in one of them.
David Phelps (1-1, 5.02 ERA) will oppose Justin Masterson (5-2, 3.67 ERA) in Game 1 of the double-header. In Game 2, Girardi will call upon Vidal Nuno (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to make his first start as a Yankee against highly-touted prospect Trevor Bauer (1-1, 2.70 ERA).
Nuno has three innings of major league experience. Nuno was successful in Double-A last season, throwing 114 innings and going 9-5 with a 2.45 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and 100 strikeouts. Bauer is limiting opposing hitters to a .097 batting average but has walked 13 batters in just 10 innings.
