It's been a busy last few days in the world of cricket. Here are three of the week's top stories:
Mitchell Johnson Named ICC Cricketer of The Year
The Australian fast bowler won his second COTY award on Friday afternoon. In the past he claimed 59 Test wickets (with an average of 15.23). Mitchell's signature performance came in December, when he bowled figures of seven for 40 runs in a match against England. Mitchell also claimed 21 wickets in 16 games during ODIs. He is the third Australian to win the ICC Cricketer of the Year.
AB de Villiers Breaks The 7000 Run Plateau
The South African batsman became the fastest to ever reach 7000 ODI runs, doing it in just 166 innings. That shattered Saurav Ganguly's previous record, attained in 174 innings. It's a wonderful landmark for de Villiers, but, alas, he shouldn't expect his record accomplishment to stand for long; both India's Virat Kohli (6069 in 137) and South African teammate Hashim Amla (4798 in 96) are hot on his trail.
Mudgal Report Names Names
Four important people connected to Indian cricket, ICC chairman N Sirnivasan amongst them, were named by the nation's Supreme Court in connection with a report that uncovered instances of misdemeanour spot-fixing in the 2013 IPL. IPL chief operating officer Sundar Raman, Chennai Super Kings official Gurunath Meiyappan, and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra were the other three individuals named.
