New Zealand Cricket News: Fan Makes Catch Of A Lifetime During Georgia Pie Super Smash Match [VIDEO]

Most of us American sports fans may not be familiar with the ins and outs of cricket, but years of going to baseball games means any of us can appreciate a great one-handed fan grab when we see one.

In the video below, one spectator made the catch of his lifetime during a recent Georgie Pie Super Smash match in New Zealand.

New Zealand's Northern District Cricket was offering a promotional event, whereby any fan who could "catch a six on the full" (the very rough equivalent of catching a home run cleanly, although with a greater degree of difficulty) would win $5000 Kiwi dollars. That's about $4000 in American currency.

When a batsman for the Otago Volts launched a six during the evening's match, it looked all but uncatchable. That is, until one intrepid fan by the name of Andrew McCulloch came sliding down the hill, snagging the ball at the absolute last moment before it hit the ground. You have to love the raw enthusiasm with which the match announcers celebrate his accomplishment.

In the footage, McCulloch can be seen returning to his girlfriend's side after making the $5000 catch. Coincidentally, that women is the sister of Michael Bracewell, the very player who connected on the six in the first place!
