Phoenix Suns News: Forward Michael Beasley Under Investigation For Alleged Sexual Assault

Michael Beasley of the Phoenix Suns, the second overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft by the Miami Heat behind Derrick Rose, is in hot water today as the Scottsdale Police Department has confirmed it is investigating the Phoenix Suns forward for accusations of sexual assault.

Regarding a January 13th incident, Scottsdale Police Department spokesman David Pubins said, "At this point we can only say the investigation is ongoing. We are interviewing those involved and processing any physical evidence we may have to try and determine if criminal charges are appropriate."

Beasley was disappointing for the Timberwolves, averaging 15 points and 5.4 rebounds a night in four seasons with the Heat and Minnesota Timberowlves. Despite improvement in his game, the Wolves allowed him to sign a three-year, $18 million contract with Phoenix this offseason. This season, Beasley has averaged 10.1 points per game and 3.8 rebounds while playing the fewest minutes per game (20.7) of his career.

The 24-year-old five-year veteran is no stranger to negative off-the-court publicity either. He has had three separate incidents involving marijuana, including one embarrassing instance of Beasley photographing a tattoo on his back and posting it on social media, while a baggie of marijuana was visible in the picture. That particular flap, which occurred while he was still in Miami led to a highly publicized rehabilitation stint.

Beasley drew criticism for "mushing" a fan in the face during a street ball game at Dyckman Park in New York City. Earlier this year the troubled forward got in even more trouble, this time for speeding with a suspended license in Arizona and having expired registration. Beasley was handcuffed at the time by the police officer who pulled him over, but released him because of Beasley's cooperation.

There is no word yet as to whether Beasley's latest bad publicity will affect his standing with the Suns.
