Susannah Collins, a former sports reporter for Comcast SportsNet Chicago, has been let go following a slip of the tongue on the air Tuesday night according to reports, although the network is claiming her firing had nothing to do with her gaffe.
Collins was on-camera Tuesday night when she meant to say the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks have had tremendous amount of success this season; the Blackhawks finished the year 36-7-5 with a league-leading 77 points, five points more than the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference and 11 more than the West's second-place Anaheim Ducks. Instead, however, Collins accidentally said the Blackhawks have "had a tremendous amount of sex this year," in a clip that almost instantaneously went viral.
Comcast SportsNet Chicago has released a statement regarding Collins' dismissal, saying the decision to let her go was "unrelated to her on-air remarks." The full statement reads, "Due to circumstances unrelated to her on-air remarks Tuesday night, Susannah Collins and Comcast SportsNet Chicago have parted ways. We appreciate everything Susannah has contributed to our network over the past year and wish her the best in her future endeavors."
As her profile grew, so did awareness of YouTube videos uploaded in 2009 and 2010 that she was involved in. She was the co-host of Sports Nutz, a series of faux-sports reports that were raunchy and sexual in nature, and had some negative racial overtones.
The Blackhawks, who truly have had a tremendous amount of success this season, pulled out a win over the Minnesota Wild in the game that warranted Collins' fateful coverage. Chicago rode goals by Bryan Bickell and Marian Hossa to a thrilling overtime victory over the high-priced Wild.
