Rumors about the death of Mike Vick’s speed and athleticism are greatly exaggerated.
To prove it, the soon to be 33-year-old Vick easily dusted teammate LeSean McCoy in a 40-yard dash at practice after the 24-year-old running back dared to call him “old.”
“So today at the field one of my teammates called me old,” Vick tweeted in the aftermath, adding that the teammate begged him to race the 40-yard dash. "Beat him by a few yards," he added. “#SpeedKILLS."
According to ProFootballTalk.com, the ever boisterous McCoy had been riding Vick for weeks; calling him “old man,” to the point Vick begged new coach Chip Kelly to allow the two to settle the matter in the trenches.
Eagle’s teammates buzzed about the race on their own Twitter accounts before and after the showdown. “The rumors are true,” tweeted tight end Clay Harbor. “Vick dusted McCoy in the 40-yard dash.
Even as he marveled at his own teammate’s wherewithal, defensive end Clifton Geathers couldn’t resist taking a dig at perennial rival Dallas. “Never seen a QB beat a runner back by 4-yards until today. Vick is fast as a mug Jay Ratliff,” he tweeted.
So humbling was the defeat, it even rendered McCoy speechless… until he made it to his own Twitter account. After joking Vick cheated, he finally relented via tweets that Vick was “one of the fastest three men on the team.”
Perhaps still striving to convince Kelly of his leadership qualities, Vick was sure to graceful even in triumph.
