The Week 8 game of the week will pit two undefeated Top 5 opponents against each other as the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish travel to Tallahassee to face the No. 2 Florida State Seminoles.
Irish coach Brian Kelly spoke about the opportunity to knock off the reigning champions and said the only way to do it is to be efficient.
"What stands out here is efficiency," Kelly said. "Not turning the football over, minimizing any of the mistakes that they make. I think you have to look at yourself the same way. Not giving up big plays is important for us. Not forcing us in a situation where we make that big mistake. They're waiting for you to make a mistake, and I think that's where they've shown themselves to be very, very good, and Winston in particular, he's waiting for you to make a mistake. We have to be on top of our game.”
This game will pit Heisman Trophy caliber quarterbacks against each other as Everett Golson and Jameis Winson take the field. Winston will play despite an ongoing investigation by the university concerning Winston signing memorabilia and possibly being paid.
The Irish will face two more ranked opponents this season and could recover from a loss, but a loss by Florida State likely ends their bid to repeat as champions as they don’t play another ranked opponent this season.
Florida State leads the all-time series against Notre Dame 5-2, including four of the last five. The Seminoles topped the Irish in their last meeting 18-14 in 2011.
