An Oklahoma City Thunder ball boy Mitchell Brown is accused of tweeting death threats to Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley for injuring Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook.
In the first half of Game 2, Westbrook dribbled the ball near half court and stopped to call a timeout. Beverley seized the opportunity to attempt a steal, and crashed into Westbrook's leg in the process. Westbrook finished the game and played well, but suffered a torn lateral meniscus that will keep him out of action for the remainder of the playoffs.
The account belonging to Brown tweeted "Patrick Beverley (sic) I'm coming to kill you." After that, another tweet was sent that read "@pavbev21 I'm coming to kill you." Brown has denied sending out the tweets and is claiming his account was hacked. Oklahoma City police captain Dexter Nelson said his department is working with Houston police and the NBA to investigate the matter.
The Thunder organization released a statement saying they "do not condone his comments. He works game nights on a voluntary basis and the matter will be handled internally."
Beverley had played very well in the first two games of the series, especially in Game 2 in which he scored 16 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and recorded six assists. In Game 3, the Oklahoma City Thunder clamped down on Beverley, and he did himself no favors by playing in an overaggressive fashion and remaining in foul trouble throughout. He managed just six points, three assists and two rebounds in 22 minutes, while making only 3-of-10 shots from the field.
In Westbrook's absence, Reggie Jackson made his first career start, playing 25 minutes and giving the Thunder 14 points, two rebounds and one assist. He was backed up by Derek Fisher, who played 24 minutes, scored and pulled down six rebounds.
