Another NFL Black Eye or Police Brutality Issue? Dolphins' Derrick Shelby Arrested After Touching Women [VIDEO]

The arrest of Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Derrick Shelby is a black eye on the NFL or the police, or both.

It certainly didn't leave Shelby's eye in a good condition, either.

CNN.com reported that the Dolphins suspended Shelby after he allegedly touched women without their consent at a dance club in Fort Lauderdale, Florida early Saturday and then took an "aggressive stance" when police attempted to arrest him, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The affidavit stated that the 25-year-old Shelby was "touching females at a location without their permission." Security escorted him out of the club, and police attempted multiple times to get him to stop obstructing a roadway and the entrance to the club.

That's when Shelby began to act in a combative manner, refusing to stop and asking the officer, "What are you going to do."

The officer called for backup and asked for Shelby to leave. He refused, and the police tried to arrest him for trespassing.

The affidavit said police got Shelby on the ground, but apparently, he was still too strong for the officers, the affidavit stating that he was "overpowering officers."

The police ended up using a stun gun on him three times, saying only after the third time where the officers able to subdue him. Law enforcement charged Shelby with trespass after warning and resisting without violence - both misdemeanors.

A mug shot of Shelby shows how aggressive police had to be with him.

The Dolphins suspended Shelby indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team, CNN reported.

Shelby's lawyer, Danny Rosenberg, told the Miami Herald that Shelby maintains his innocence.

The Herald added that the booking mug showed a bloodied Shelby, which Rosenberg added "speaks volumes," considering the charge was resisting without violence.

Tensions are high about police behavior after the Ferguson, Missouri incident. But if Shelby is found guilty of touching women, after all the NFL problems with players' treatment of women, it shows what woefully little players learned about all the events talked about over the summer dealing with respect toward women.

What should be Derrick Shelby's punishment if he is found to have conducted touching of women without their consent, in light of the recent issues involving NFL players' treatment of women? Comment below or tell us @SportsWN.
