Terrell Owens Bears: Terrell Owens Thinks He Would Be Great Fit In Chicago

Terrell Owens, the controversial 39-year-old wide receiver who hasn't played an NFL down in two years, thinks his history with new Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman makes the Bears a good landing spot for a comeback, according to reports.

Owens' last season in the league was a productive one; he caught 72 passes for 923 yards and nine touchdowns in 2012 for the Cincinnati Bengals. The reason Owens has struggled to find work the last few seasons, however, is an attitude that has grated on teammates and coaches at every stop he has made. Still, Owens is hoping that his relationship with Trestman can make a difference.

As a rookie with the San Francisco 49ers in 1996, Trestman was the 49ers' offensive coordinator. In an interview Friday with Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Owens said, "I played my first early years in San Francisco with and shortly after that, he left to do some things. I haven't talked to Marc in a long while. I know he's gone on and done some things, now he's back in the NFL. So, I never really thought about it until myself and (former linebacker) Napoleon (Harris) were talking about it earlier, but I would definitely welcome it if they would give it some serious consideration."

Owens said he envisions lining up opposite current Bears' No. 1 wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who fits Owens' profile nicely. Like Owens, Marshall is a tall, physically imposing pass-catcher who has had moments of immaturity, and episodes of dropping passes, but whose overall production takes precedence over his mental and behavioral issues.

The prospect of the pairing excites Owens, who said, "To think about [Marshall] on the other side and me on one side, that's really dangerous. I'm keeping myself in shape just for any opportunity that may come about."

Combining Marshall's 2012 stats and Owens' 2010 numbers, a formidable receiving corps is born. The production shakes out to a combined 190 passes caught, 2,491 yards, and 20 touchdowns.
