Tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET NBC presents the first Sunday Night Football matchup of the 2014 NFL season featuring Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos (0-0), who will host Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts (0-0). The Broncos set records last season with Manning at the helm, but in 2014 they will rely heavily on second-year rusher Montee Ball in the backfield to replace the dual threat Knowshon Moreno provided.
In addition, the Broncos lost WR Erick Decker to free agency this offseason, and will be without Wes Welker because of a four-game drug suspension.
"A lot of people are going to have to step up and raise their play," Manning said. "When you don't have one of your best players, a guy who is one of your top contributors, I think it falls on more than just one person. That's our challenge."
Despite having one of the brightest young stars in football in Luck, the Colts are underdogs by more than a touchdown entering play tonight. That fact doesn't have Luck, who replaced Manning in Indianapolis, fazed though.
"They've got a lot of players who can play football, but I think we've got a lot of guys who can play football as well," Luck said. "It should be a great test and a great matchup."
