Today at 1:00 p.m. ET two teams who experienced disappointing 2013 seasons, the Washington Redskins (0-0) and Houston Texans (0-0) will lock horns in Houston on CBS in a Week 1 clash that can be live streamed here. Redskins fans can hear the radio broadcast on ESPN 980, while Texans fans may do the same on 100.3 The Bull.
While Washington is hoping for a resurgent Year 3 for quarterback Robert Griffin III, he will have to use his legs to elude J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney of Houston, who may comprise the NFL's most ferocious pass rush.
"Every day we work a little something," Watt said. "As you've seen in the (preseason) games, he's a very talented player. I just try and teach him a couple of the things I've learned in my time in this league and ways that we can help each other because I really think it can be a lot of fun."
Griffin, meanwhile, has the added burden of a harsh spotlight. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 2012, but struggled to recover from knee injuries and received his fair share of bad press.
"I've learned that not everybody's going to like you, and that's just the nature of the business," Griffin said. "You just have to move on from that kind of stuff. I think Jay being here has helped me grow as a person. Trust me, I'm not worried about anybody liking me. Our job is to ignore the noise and stay focused on what we have to."
In order to remain upright, Griffin may be wise to rely on his arm more than his legs in Week 1. "I made my name throwing the ball in college," Griffin said. "I won a Heisman Trophy with Baylor."
