The Mariners enter play a half-game behind the Detroit Tigers for the final wild-card spot in the American League while the Rangers are the worst team in baseball and out of playoff contention.

Hisashi Iwakuma (13-6, 2.60 ERA) mans the mound for the Mariners while the Rangers respond with Scott Baker, who is 3-3 with a 5.23 ERA.

Baker was cut from the Mariners, but he holds no ill will as he goes to face his former team.

"No hard feelings, they were really good to me," Baker said per MLB.com. "I know things might have been different if I had pitched better but I got into a funk and ran out of time. They made an effort to keep me in the organization but it didn't work out. No hard feelings, it will be fun."

While Texas is out of it, Seattle knows that the team is dangerous and can play spoiler as Seattle dropped two of three to them at home last week.

"It's been my experience that in fact they're probably more dangerous," manager Lloyd McClendon told MLB.com. "They're a lot looser and they don't have anything to lose. It makes it even tougher."

Seattle faces a Texas lineup that is boosted by third baseman Adrian Beltre, who ranks third in the AL with a .323 batting average and leads the team with 17 homers and 69 RBI.

The Mariners respond with a lineup that is flanked by second baseman Robinson Cano, who is right behind Beltre in the AL ranks with a .322 batting average. Third baseman Kyle Seager has paced Seattle with 22 homers and 86 RBI.

Two AL West rivals go head-to-head when the Mariners and Rangers clash tonight at the Rangers Ball Park in Arlington.
