49ers Nate Montana: 49ers Work Out Joe Montana's Son At Pro Day

Nate Montana, the 23-year-old son of legendary San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana, will be participating at the 49ers pro day today, according to reports.

A source with knowledge of the planned workouts said Nate will take part in an afternoon session for draft-eligible players only. According to ESPN.com the source spoke on the condition of anonymity because the list of players participating had not yet been released.

Nate Montana has played for four different schools in his college career-Pasadena City College, Notre Dame, Montana, and Division II West Virginia Wesleyan. He started nine games last season at his final stop, West Virginia Wesleyan, and threw for 2,480 yards, 19 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions.

At Pasadena City College Nate struggled, completing just 31 of 88 passes and throwing a mere two touchdowns to five interceptions. He then left for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where he saw extremely limited playing time. He completed 9-of-18 passes for 116 yards and zero touchdowns. He also threw a pick while wearing the iconic gold helmet.

As a Montana Grizzly, Nate saw a bit more action but not much. He completed 26-of-42 passes in his time at Montana, with 274 yards, two touchdowns, one interception and a career-high 6.5 yards per attempt.

In Nate's draft profile, NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks said Nate was a "long shot" to reach the NFL despite his Hall of Fame pedigree. "It's going to be hard for him to transition to the next level," Brooks said. "His passes don't have zip. He has difficulty making pro throws." Brooks went on to say, "He's a great kid, his measurables are fine, but in terms of playing at the next level, his performance here was not very good."

Gil Brandt, another NFL.com analyst, thinks Nate's size will be his ticket to an NFL roster. Nate Montana has prototypical NFL size, standing at six feet, four inches and 215 pounds.
