Amir Khan Next Fight: Floyd Mayweather Jr. Says Fight Can Happen in 2015, Dismisses Notion Manny Pacquiao More Difficult [VIDEO]

It appears that Amir Khan does have a chance of finally getting to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., although his most recent victory, a lopsided win over Luis Collazo, wasn't quite enough to convince the pound-for-pound king of his worthiness.

"He (Amir Khan) knows that the fight between us can still happen,' Mayweather said. "He is an exciting young fighter - but I don't just fight anybody - they have to prove themselves. If you ask me will the fight happen - then I would say yes. I hope next year - but these fights are always about timing."

Kell Brook hoping for Khan fight in U.K.

Khan has been pining for a while about wanting to face Mayweather, claiming his superior hand speed and overall skill would pose more of a challenge than the bulkier, more powerful opponents he has previously defeated.

More recently, however, Khan's comments have taken a discouraged tone regarding a Mayweather fight. He even opened the door to a fight against Manny Pacquiao, and said that Pacman might be more difficult for him stylistically than Mayweather.

Manny Pacquiao could be tougher fight for Amir Khan than Floyd Mayweather?

Mayweather has predictably disputed that notion.

"I saw the comments where he thought Manny would give him a tougher fight than me. I have no response to that. I will just remind him of those comments after I have beaten him."

Before facing Mayweather, Khan is expected to take on newly crowned IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook. Both fighters are from the U.K., so talks are underway of an across-the-pond superfight taking place at Wembley Stadium. The winner of that matchup will likely be a major contender to be Mayweather's next opponent.

Mayweather's currently slated for a September 13 rematch with Marcos "El Chino" Maidana, whom he beat in May by split decision.
