The Colts surely have no quarterback controversy to worry about with Andrew Luck entrenched in the role in his third season, but the Jets have plenty to settle. Second-year quarterback Geno Smith struggled for most of 2013, and now has veteran Michael Vick behind him on the depth chart.

While the competition is reportedly open, Smith has been receiving the majority of first team reps in practice. Vick, meanwhile, has played the role of dutiful team-first vet and heaped praise on Smith.

"He's going to be great," Vick said of Smith. "He's going to be 10 times better than where he was last year, and I'm looking forward to it."

Last year Smith threw just 12 touchdowns against 21 interceptions, and managed just 190 yards per game through the air. On the plus side, he improved down the stretch and finished the season with two fourth quarter comebacks and five game-winning drives under his belt.

On the Indianapolis side, the key figure this preseason is running back Trent Richardson. He was traded from he Browns early last season for the Colts' first round pick, and struggled badly for the entirety of his stay.

After averaging 2.9 yards per carry with the Colts, the team is hoping a full training camp will allow him to flourish and improve upon his career mark of 3.3 yards per rush. They'll need him to step up; Donald Brown left via free agency, Vick Ballard is already ruled out for 2014 thanks to injury, and Ahmad Bradshaw missed much of last season with a neck injury.
