49ers Acquire Colt McCoy From Browns

The San Francisco 49ers have acquired quarterback Colt McCoy from the Cleveland Browns, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. McCoy will compete with Scott Tolzien to back up starter Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco.

The Browns will also trade their sixth-round pick to the 49ers in exchange for the 49ers' picks in the fifth and seventh rounds. The agreement was also reported earlier by CBSSports.com.

McCoy stated 21 games for the Browns during his three seasons in Cleveland. The Browns signed veteran backup Jason Campbell last week who will likely challenge Brandon Weeden for the starting job.

McCoy was selected in the third round by Cleveland in the 2010 draft. He played in eight games as a rookie and started 13 in 2011 before a concussion concluded his season.

He went 6-15 as a starter and threw for 4,388 yards and 21 touchdowns over the span of his career.
