The Utah Jazz are starting their pursuit of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ No. 1 overall pick for Thursday’s NBA Draft. The Jazz have made a formal offer to Cleveland that includes Derrick Favors.
Spencer Checketts, of 1280 The Zone in Salt Lake City, made the report that the Jazz were pursuing the pick back on June 20, but since then the trade has evolved. The original deal called for the Jazz to give up Favors and the two teams to swap first round picks, but the updated offer included the teams swapping Alec Burks and Jarrett Jack.
The Cavaliers have been rumored to be shopping Jack around so his inclusion in a deal involving the first overall pick is not surprising. ESPN’s Chad Ford believes that the Jazz fans would want the team to select Duke’s Jabari Parker, but he believes the team is targeting Andrew Wiggins of Kansas.
“I know what Jazz fans want. They want Jabari. But I actually think Embiid and Wiggins may be higher on their boards. If they move up, don't assume it's for Parker. And please Jazz fans, don't burn down Dennis Lindsay's home if he passed on him. You'll love Wiggins too”
The reports out of Utah are that the Jazz are reluctant to trade Burks in the deal and see him as a more valuable asset to the teams immediate future. Plenty of teams have the pieces necessary to make a move for the Cavaliers No. 1 overall pick come Thursday’s NBA Draft, but no deal is expected to take place until Cleveland is on the clock.
