The Cleveland Cavaliers have offered their head coaching position to none other than international coach David Blatt. Yahoo Sports Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Cavaliers are ready to pull the trigger on the European League coach who has never coached in the United States.
Wojnarowski belives this is a bold move for Cleveland, but also one that could pay dividends for a team like the Cavaliers.
“In a bold move, the Cleveland Cavaliers have offered Euroleague icon David Blatt their head coaching, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The Cavaliers and Blatt's representatives are in the process of negotiating terms of a deal, but no agreement has been reached, sources said.
Blatt, 55, would be the first coach to make the leap from Europe to the NBA as a head coach.”
Earlier reports said that the Cavliers had the narrowed the search down to Blatt and Los Angeles Clippers assistant Tyronn Lue.
If Blatt accepts the position, he will inherit a Cleveland team that has plenty of options going into 2014. The Cavaliers have the No. 1 overall pick along with point guard Kyrie Irving and the potential to sway LeBron James back into town. Blatt is known for his ability to rebuild ball clubs quickly, seeing how he brought his Maccabi Tel Aviv team to the championship game within his first year.
