Mike Pettine Jets Playbook: Browns Coach Believes Patriots Have Rex Ryan's [VIDEO]

The New England Patriots have owned the New York Jets for the better part of a decade and Cleveland Browns' head coach Mike Pettine might have the answer to why. Pettine believes the Patriots had Jet defensive play books in their possession ever since Rex Ryan became the team's coach.

Pettine told TheMMQB.com's Greg A. Bedard that the defensive playbook is much less complicated than many would believe.

"I don't put a lot of graduate-level information in it," Pettine said. "We know in places like New England, it's only a matter of time that they somehow mysteriously end up with our playbook.”

Pettine told Bedard that Tom Brady had bragged to Jets players that the Patriots had a few copies of the Jets playbook while attending Wes Welker’s wedding. Pettine was not surprise that something like this could have happened to Ryan.

"It didn't shock me because Rex would give them out like candy anyway," Pettine said. "He gave one out to (Alabama coach Nick) Saban and I was like, 'Don't you know Saban and Bill (Belichick) are pretty good friends? I have a feeling it's going to end up in New England.’"

Pettine spent four years as the Jets defensive coordinator before spending a year with the Bills at the same position. Pettine is now the head coach of the Cleveland Browns and has had been quite active in the media considering he drafted Johnny Manziel.

Pettine said he will keep most of the high-profile content for his defense out of the original play books to make sure the Patriots don't end up with his scheme.
