The Pittsburgh Penguins have answered one of their offseason questions as they are expected to name Jim Rutherford as their new general manager. With this position filled the next question is if Rutherford will retain head coach Dan Bylsma.
The Penguins had previously announced that Bylsma’s fate would be decided by the team's next general manager so look for Rutherford’s first line of business to be if Bylsma will be around next season. The Penguins are undergoing an overhaul of their front office after being ousted from the playoffs by the New York Rangers after holding a 3-1 series lead.
The hire is being received as one that is uninspired and a safe bet for a team that has the pieces to compete right now. The outcry from the Penguin fans is that they want Bylsma out and their word carries weight in the city of Pittsburgh. The Penguins are in a situation where they are Stanley Cup or bust and finding the coach that can take them to the promised land is paramount.
Jim Rutherford to be named pens GM according to #TSN . Not the worst hire. But certainly not the best. Gott fire Bylsma..

Penguins got a "good hockey man" sounds a hell of a lot like labeling somebody a "PK specialist" A backhanded compliment at best. — Ryan Wilson (@GunnerStaal) June 6, 2014
No way is Rutherford an upgrade from Shero. None. I think #PENS made the safe hire and will "deal with it later". @penguins #NHL — @SteelersNasty (@SteelersNasty) June 6, 2014
