Cleveland Browns Rumors: Ben Tate Calls Johnny Manziel Coverage 'Annoying,'Rips Media [VIDEO]

Running back Ben Tate is new to the Cleveland Browns but that hasn't stopped him from commenting on his teams quarterback circus.

Tate spoke to memebers of the media after Browns' practice and wasnt shy a bout how he felt about the constant coverage of, rookie quarterback, Johnny Manziel.

"He hasn't played a down in the NFL yet. So ... I don't know ... That's for y'all to figure out."

"It's just as a player I know that I would get tired if people were constantly monitoring if I picked my nose, if I spit to the left or right," Tate said. "I mean, it's annoying. He's a human being.

"He's a great football player so I understand why he gets some of the constant media attention. At the same time I just figure at this stage he's tired of it and he wants to come in here and do his job and try to win the starting quarterback position."

Tate isn’t wrong as the same type of media coverage and hype led to the demise of another prominent Heisman athlete in Tim Tebow. Manziel hasn't played a single down of NFL football, but he is a national icon and has been crowned the savior of Cleveland in the month he has been on the roster. Few people remember that Brian Hoyer was very good before tearing his ACL in 2013 and will not surrender the starting quarterback position so easily.

The Browns could get off to a hot start with Hoyer and the story will still be about when or if Manziel will see any action in 2014. Manziel will get his time to shine and prove himself, but the constant coverage could doom him from the start.

Manziel didn’t comment on Tate’s comments but did say he didn't understand the constant aura of media following him. Tate took to Twitter later to clarify that he wasn't insulting Manziel, but rather questioning the media’s motives withe the circus of coverage.
