Tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET from the Bell Centre in Montreal, WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (23-1-0, 20 KO) will be looking to turn the conversation from his failure to fight Sergey Kovalev, and back to his devastating knockout power. Watch him face Andrzej Fonfara on Showtime, or live stream the fight by clicking this link.
Stevenson's 2013 was scintillating, notching four victories and winning each of those bouts in under eight rounds. Fonfara (25-2-0, 15 KO) has good power, but Stevenson may not even be aware of what he's up against tonight.
"I'm going for the knockout. Knockouts sell. I want to knock him out. That's what I'm going to do. I don't know his game plan. I'm going to knock him out," Stevenson said. "When you used to watch Mike Tyson fight, you knew someone was going to get knocked out. That's what is going to happen on Showtime. Somebody's going to get knocked out."
While Fonfara insists he's come to win this bout, many observers are looking ahead to Stevenson's next opponent. This fight was widely considered to be a tuneup for a Kovalev bout, but after shifting to Showtime a Bernard Hopkins clash is likely in the works.
Stevenson isn't commenting on what lies ahead, though. He's also not opening up much about a lawsuit lobbed his way by his Kovalev's promoters, Main Event. "I'll let Al [Haymon] be concerned with that. I'm not concerned with that," Stevenson said.
"I think my managers and my promoter will take care of that. I'm concerned and focused on my fight. I'm focused on Fonfara. I'm training very hard for this fight, and that's my focus."
Prediction: Adonis Stevenso by KO, Round 6
Undefeated Jermell Charlo (23-0-0, 11 KO) will be the main undercard attraction, and he'll fight Charlie Ota (24-1-1, 16 KO).
