Two of the biggest names that have featured for Club America in recent years have reported interest overseas, with Raul Jimenez and Miguel Layun drawing interest from FC Porto (Portugal) and Fiorentina (Italy), respectively.
Tijuana's Cristian Hernandez Transferring To Club America?
Preparing with the rest of the Mexican international team, Layun's focus remains advancing El Tri past the group stage, but even he is aware of the rumored interest from Fiorentina (h/t to Medio Tiempo). "I know of the interest. I know that an offer could come from Fiorentina," Layun said.
"I don't know anything else because I asked to distance myself from all that. If there's a concrete offer, the two clubs will talk and let me know where to go from there," he added.
Aquivaldo Mosquera Out, Los Angeles Galaxy's Omar Gonzalez In?
Layun went on to add his desire to make history with the Mexican national team in Brazil.
Jimenez—his teammate and compatriot—will be looking to do the same, but his suitor resides on the Iberian Peninsula. The 23-year-old made 17 appearances with America in 2014, scoring eight goals and creating 21 chances. That was enough to draw interest from Portuguese outfit FC Porto, who is ready to crown him as the Mexican Zlatan Ibrahimovic (per Record).
Should the duo depart Estadio Azteca, the club's brass will have the opportunity to bolster their side with new signings. Just don't expect one of those signings to be Pachucha's Jorge "Burrito" Hernandez. Despite rumors of America's interest in the 24-year-old, Efekto Noticias (via reporter Rub Sainz) have debunked said rumors. The club has zero interest in his services. Those reports hold no truth.
