When you score seven goals, create 13 chances, help lead Cruz Azul to an intercontinental title and are named to Mexico's 23-man World Cup roster, you're going to garnish a myriad of attention. If you're Marco Fabian, however, you won't pay much attention to it.
Marco Fabian Being Replaced By Cristian Penilla?
The 24-year-old has been linked with a transfer to an unnamed German club following the World Cup in Brazil. Cruz Azul's interest in Cristian Penilla—a dynamic attacking midfielder in Ecuador's first division—appears to be the first step in replacing Fabian's services should he depart.
While Fabian is flattered by the rumors involving his name, his focus remains returning to prominence with the Mexican national team (h/t to El Piñero). "I'm thankful, first with God, with life and this opportunity that they [the Mexican Football Federation] are giving me," he told the media.
Marco Fabian To Germany After 2014 World Cup?
"It's a privilege, an honor to represent my country, but it's a clear example that when someone fights for something, they earn it. Thank God I played a great season. I lacked consistency, [but I overcame it] and now the biggest reward is being here, representing Mexico," he added.
As for the rumors, Fabian had this to offer: "I'm happy that there's all these rumors, but the truth is I'm only concentrated on the national team. I'm not thinking about that right now [transferring from Cruz Azul]. If that day comes or not, it'd be farther in the future."
"I don't want distractions. I'm preparing very well to be in the World Cup."
He's happy with the rumors. He's not ruling out a transfer completely. Is Marco Fabian closer to transferring to Europe than the rumors indicate? Tell us @SportsWN
