Blake Bortles NFL Comparison: Ben Roethlisberger Clone Perfect for Houston Texans, Minnesota Vikings? [VIDEO]

The NFL Draft is little more than week away, but we have known this years players for almost four months. Do we really know these players? Lets find out with scoring reports on the drafts’ top prospects.

Player: Blake Bortles

Summary: Bortles burst onto the scene this past season after being underrated dating back to his high school days. Bortles has now taken center stage as the drafts top quarterback prospect after leading Central Florida to a BCS berth and having a satisfactory offseason. Bortles should find himself being the first quarterback taken in May 8th’s draft and then the conversation starts. Will Bortles start right away or will he take a back seat and learn from a veteran for a year.

Pros:
- Prototypical size
- Great teammate and leader
- Has ability to make every NFL throw
- Above average pocket awareness
- Under the radar mobility
- Most upside

Cons:
- Lacks elite arm strength
- College competition was subpar
- Pass timing is slightly late

Pro Comparison: Ben Roethlisberger
The comparison comes from Bortles' ideal size and strength, not that he will be the next Big Ben. Bortles is a hard man to tackle when he's sitting in the pocket and has a certain mobility to him that can get him out of trouble. Roethlisberger has made a living using his ideal size and feet to avoid being crushed, but his offensive line has always been less than ideal. Bortles would benefit greatly from an established offensive line, but if he finds himself behind a sub par line he could become David Carr.

Perfect Fits: Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos
The thing with Bortles is that we have no idea how he will respond to an NFL pass rush. He has never played against the best talent college football has to offer and now he is jumping to the NFL. Finding a fit for him goes past scheme and more into how his offensive line can play. The Broncos and Vikings had the third and sixth best lines in the league respectively, but the Vikings have a need right this second. The Vikings would be the ideal fit for a strong, mobile Roethlisberger-type player that has an established offensive line.
