Former Miss Alabama winner Katherine Webb has rushed to clear up rumors about her and boyfriend A.J. McCarron's reality television show--McCarron won't be on it. The former Alabama quarterback, and three-time national champion, might have a bit too much on his plate as he's expected to be taken sometime in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Is Katherine Webb the Draft's top eye candy?
Webb's family broke news of the show, which Sports World News reported on yesterday. Katherine's sister Laurie said, "They've already started filming during the proposal. From what I understood, it came from someone else. I don't think they were trying to get into a reality show, I think they just had the opportunity and decided to take it."
ESPN reporter Adam Schefter tweeted a very different version of events today however. "Turns out Katherine Webb approached to consider 1-episode reality show on planning wedding. Nothing firm and AJ McCarron has no real role."
McCarron doesn't want to be compared to Johnny Manziel
Although the original details about how many episodes were planned were sketchy at best, Webb's family members seemed to have several specific ideas in place.
Rumor has it the quick reversal was intended to lessen scrutiny on McCarron, who received negative feedback once the news broke. The Alabama prospect was wildly successful at the collegiate level, but is a polarizing talent to NFL scouts and executives.
His intelligence and leadership seem to be universally lauded, but McCarron's physical tools are wanting compared to other prospects in this class. Most notably, he isn't believed to have the necessary arm strength to compete against elite NFL defenses.
His numbers paint the picture of a high-end talent though. In four seasons he threw 77 touchdowns to just 15 interceptions, amassed 9,019 yards through the air, and even scrambled for three scores.
Keep up with Katherine Webb @SportsWN
