Sherman and Revis Twitter Feud Over Who is NFL's Best Corner

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was embroiled in a Twitter battle with Jets' cornerback Darrelle Revis over which of the two is the league's best shutdown corner.

In January, while Revis was out of action Sherman compared his stats to Revis' in a tweet and said "women lie, men lie, numbers don't lie." When Sherman recently piped up again about his status, Revis had had enough tweeting at Sherman "I never seen a man before run his mouth so much like girl. This dude just steady putting my name in his mouth to get notoriety." He later called Sherman a "young pup" and told him to "wait his turn."

On NFL AM, Sherman explained why he decided to fire back at Revis, widely considered the top cornerback in the league, so harshly. "He came off disrespectful, so words needed to be said," Sherman recalled of Revis' alleged Twitter smack. "Apparently, he is going to disrespect my game.  I don't know what he has done - stats wise - to earn the right to talk down to people. He has never had more than six [interceptions] in a season, so let's quiet down."

Sherman had four interceptions in his rookie season and last year, his first as a full-time starter, Sherman picked off eight passes and had 24 pass defenses. Revis' career-high in interceptions is six, in 2009, and he had 31 pass defenses that season. Revis missed all but two games in 2012 after tearing his ACL early in the season.

Sherman said he respects Revis' ability but considers himself more of a game-changer. "Impact - in terms of making plays - force fumbles, picks, sacks, changing the game. Shutting down a side of the field changes the game to a point - I do it from time to time - but you don't make the same kind of impact that you do when you have [interceptions], forced fumbles, and create turnovers." He also dismissed the theory that Revis' stats are less eye-popping because opposing quarterbacks fear him too much to throw his way. "If you really check the stats, there is nobody that quarterbacks don't throw at. When you get 17, 24, 29 pass defenses in a season, they have thrown at you, you just haven't picked the ball off."
