A long time ago, Louisiana-Lafayette coach Bob Marlin had this to say about Creighton freshman Doug McDermott after a loss-- "A coach's son. He's going to be a nice player."
Marlin proved prophetic; now he will face McDermott again, this time in the NCAA Tournement, and if he plans on advancing to the next round stopping McDermott in his tracks is the way to do it.
"I'm scared to look at the scouting report. The numbers are piling up in my head," Marlin said. "But the things he's accomplished and coming back to school for his senior year, being the player that he's become, it's a good story for college basketball."
McBuckets' 26.9 points per game leads the entire country, and he's hitting 45 percent of his 3-pointers while attempting more than six per game. He's been active on the glass this season, racking up seven boards per contest as well and connecting on 86 percent of his foul shots.
He's also the son of Creighton coach Greg McDermott, who expected his son to declare for the NBA draft after last season. "I don't think I'll shed a tear when that happens. I've been blessed to have the opportunity to coach him this year," Greg McDermott said. "It's been an experience that I wish every parent could experience. It's been an incredible ride."
Louisiana-Lafayette guard Elfrid Payton is no slouch either, posting a season of 19 ppg, six apg, and six rpg.
