NFL News: Jim Irsay arrested, booked on DWI? Will Roger Goodell drop the hammer on charismatic Colts owner? [GIF]

Irsay was charged with four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance and reports are that prescriptions were scattered around his car. Adam Schefter also reports Irsay can be disciplined by the NFL.

Never one to stay out of the spotlight, Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested early Monday morning on preliminary charges of DWI and possession of a controlled substance.

Around 3:00 a.m. this morning Irsay was booked on operating a vehicle while intoxicated and his bond was set at $22,500. Irsay has had a history with controlled substances as early as 2002 when he checked into a rehabilitation center for an addiction to painkillers.

In a time where the NFL is on high alert with players getting into trouble with alcohol, this isn't a good sign for the league office. The is the last thing Commissioner Roger Goodell wanted to see this morning especially with the recent positive success and news with free agency and the upcoming draft.

Goodell has made it clear that he wanted the crime issues with the NFL to subside in 2014 and now with an owner getting into trouble you can be sure Goodell will Irsay as an example that no one is above the NFL. Irsay will have to answer for this in a court of law, but the league office could very well drop the hammer on one of the NFL’s most charismatic owners once all is said and done.
